Born 1968 in Den Helder. At an early age, he explored the countryside of Drenthe with his father, looking for prehistoric tools. The ancient relationship between humans and these landscapes created a lasting impression which is at the base of his perspective on nature.

Northern landscapes are a recurrent theme in the work of Siemen Dijkstra, well-known for his woodcuts of forests. He employs the reduction technique: working in transparent inks, he cuts away more and more of the plank with each layer, working form light to dark. With an eye for detail, he creates an intimate panorama of trees, leaves and rippeling water.
